Mariana IONITA graduated Veterinary Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, and Biology at the University of Bucharest, Romania. She defended her PhD in 2004. The main subject of the PhD thesis was on Ecology of ticks in Romania. Ticks and tick-borne diseases and molecular detection of tick-borne pathogens, as well as other vector-borne diseases are the main her research interests. She is also interested in studying the anthelmintic resistance and control of equine parasites. Mariana Ionita followed a Faculty Exchange Program, gained by national competition, organized by the U.S.D.A., in 2006, and hosted by University of Kentucky, Lexington, U.S.A. Thereafter, she performed other several research trainings in equine parasites (in 2007, 2008, and 2009) at Gluck Equine Research Center, Lexington, Kentucky, U.S.A. She also experienced research activities on marine mammals’ parasites in Saint Paul Island, Alaska, U.S.A. (2007) and San Miguel Island, California, U.S.A. (2008). In 2013, she got the Habilitation in Veterinary Parasitology and in the same year she has become PhD coordinator at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest. In 2015, she passed the board examination of the European Veterinary Parasitology College (EVPC). Since 2020, Mariana IONITA is Full Professor at the Unit of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases & Animal Biology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, U.S.A.M.V. of Bucharest, Romania.
