Full time position (part time can be considered)

The Faculté de médecine vétérinaire (FMV) of the Université de Liège, Belgium is currently seeking qualified candidate for a clinician position in ophthalmology. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the University of Liège, Belgium offers a one-year position (possibly extendable) for a Senior Ophthalmologist. The position is available from April 1, 2024. Candidates are expected to have an ECVO/ACVO diploma or to be a board eligible resident, or to be an ophthalmology skilled clinician.
Our clinic is fully equipped with cutting edge technology, providing you with all the necessary tools to diagnose and treat a wide range of ophthalmic conditions, from dogs and cats, horses to exotic animals. The current clinical team is composed of ECVS, ECVIM-CA, ECVN, ECVDI, ECVAA, ECVECC, ECAR, ECVCN, ECVD, ECVIM-CA cardiology diplomates and residents/interns. The current ophthalmology team includes an ECVO diplomate, a board-eligible resident and an ophthalmology intern. The ophthalmology case load is around 1000 cases for companion animals and 300 cases for horses per year.

As a clinician, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the excellence of Veterinary Teaching Hospital: You will:
• Participate in the clinical teaching of undergraduate students, through provision of care and services meeting the different needs of the ophthalmology service;
• Participate in clinical teaching of interns and residents in ophthalmology;
• Evaluate student learning;
• Take care of the ophthalmology in-patients (horses and companion animals)

The following qualifications are necessary:
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent;
• Preferably:
o Board certified of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ECVO) or American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ACVO)
o Completion of a formal residency training program in ophthalmology
• Consideration will also be given to experienced ophthalmologists
• Work experience (possibly including work experience during residency) and interest in clinical teaching of ophthalmology in an academic environment
• Knowledge of French language at a B2 level
• Basic knowledge in English and/or Dutch
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with faculty and students in a collegial manner
