Prof. Anouck Haverbeke

Anouck graduated as a veterinarian from Ghent University (Belgium) in 2001 and completed her thesis on horses’ welfare at Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). She earned her PhD in Ethology from the University of Namur (Belgium) in 2009. Her research has demonstrated the positive impact of training on military dogs’ welfare and performance. Since 2013, she has been a European Veterinary Specialist in Behavioural Medicine (ECAWBM-BM). In 2021, Anouck was appointed Professor in Veterinary Behavioural Medicine at the University of Ghent. Currently, she serves as the President of the European College in Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine. In addition to offering veterinary behavioural consultations at her private practice, Anouck collaborates with different institutions to teach animal behaviour. She frequently lectures in Belgium and abroad on Animal Behaviour and human-animal interactions. Her ongoing teaching and research projects encompass the impact of positive training methods on dogs and horses, olfactory enrichment on the welfare of animals, the effects of different housing conditions on horse welfare, and grief in dogs.
