I am an active Professor Emeritus of Veterinary Pharmacology at the University of Helsinki. My main research interest is in pharmacotherapy and pharmacodynamics of drugs alleviating pain. I have been deeply involved in development of the veterinary sedatives detomidine, medetomidine, and dexmedetomidine including their antagonists atipamezole and vatinoxane. My research interest is in pharmaceutical alleviation of pain in animals, including development of novel pain detection methods, such as eye tracking and thermographic imaging.
