Regulation

- The provision of veterinary services is regulated by the Slovak Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons 
- The Chamber is a self-governing professional organisation associating private veterinary practitioners that carry on a private veterinary practice on the basis of registration and registers all veterinarians entitled to provide veterinary services in Slovakia. 
- In addition, there is a State Veterinary and Food Administration of the Slovak Republic on veterinary care and in the field of the food surveillance on foodstuffs as amended.

Veterinary Specialist Recognition

-The EBVS® Diplomas and European Veterinary Specialist® titles are fully recognized. 
- The Slovak Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons has a points system for veterinary specialisation - 300 points must be gathered within a 3-year period from special seminars, conferences, congresses, workshops, and national and international congresses.

Veterinary education

- The University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice is the only institution in the Slovak Republic offering higher education in the veterinary field. 
- It has been providing the veterinary education in English for 15 years. - Two programmes are offered in English study: 
- a 6-year degree programme for secondary-school graduates 
- a 4-year degree programme for BSc graduates in agricultural, veterinary or biological sciences 
- both leading to the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).

Membership Organisations

- There is a Slovak Small Animal Veterinary Association (Slovenska Asociacia Veterinarnych Lekarov Malych Zvierat).
