The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Referral Internal Medicine Clinician to join our team in Cramlington, Northumberland. The role involves independently investigating and managing a wide variety of internal medicine cases and communicating with clients and referring vets. We are a team of four internal medicine clinicians, including an ECVIM Specialist and experienced Advanced Practitioners, and several dedicated internal medicine RVNs. We are additionally supported by an ultrasonographer (MRCVS) and a radiographer. We work very closely with the other disciplines including 24-hr ECC, cardiology and soft tissue surgery within the hospital.

About Us

Our centre is a very busy referral hospital based in Northumberland. We are very well equipped with dedicated medicine rooms and wards, including separate provision for chemotherapy and for critically ill patients. We have fluoroscopy, a 160-slice CT with power injector and automated bolus tracking, DR, multiple ultrasound machines, video flexible and rigid endoscopy/laparoscopy/thoracoscopy/arthroscopy and a 1.5T MRI scanner, which covers us for most eventualities.

About the Team and Culture

We have over 100 staff; 26 Vets - the majority being Advanced Practitioners, along with Specialists in Internal Medicine and Neurology, and two Residents. In addition, we have 25 RVNs including 3 Advanced Diploma holders and 12 students. Assisting the team is a well-trained team of support staff.

Applicant Requirements

The ideal candidate is a certificate holder or RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine, or above. Experience and confidence in managing cases to a referral standard is essential. An interest in oncology, experience in imaging (use of CT and ultrasound) and previous experience of a referral environment would be advantageous but not essential.
