The veterinary sector speaks with One Voice to
update EU Directive on minimum veterinary training standards
The European Coordination Committee on Veterinary Training (ECCVT) warmly acknowledges the exceptional response of 109 replies coming from educational establishments, veterinary associations, and individual veterinarians across Europe to the recent public consultation on the Commission Delegated Directive amending Directive 2005/36/EC as amended by Directive 2013/55/EU, concerning the minimum training requirements for veterinary professionals.
Thanks to the unified voice of our profession, the minimum training requirements have been updated with some of the latest developments in the field of veterinary medicine. More specifically, the new version of the Directive includes:
- Expanded clinical responsibilities for professionals, with pain assessment, sedation, and euthanasia more explicitly described.
- It also now encompasses the need for competences in biosecurity and One Health.
- Additional professional skills with a focus on communication, teamwork, and practice management.
- Digital competences to meet current and future technological needs.
