Dr. Michael DUGGAN
Ireland
I am an EBVS and RCVS specialist in equine surgery and an Irish Clinical Academic Training Fellow at University College Dublin with an aspiration to be an internationally recognised clinical academic with a strong clinical and research portfolio with an entrepreneurial edge. My research interests focus on cartilage development, orthobiologic treatments of joint disease, and the effects of space travel on the musculoskeletal system. I am deeply committed to integrating a OneHealth approach into translational research and advancing international, multidisciplinary collaborations. Having recently completed a doctoral degree on the use of PRP in equine joints I have diversified to look at the effects of space travel on cartilage as a PhD candidate. I graduated from the University of Bristol's School of Veterinary Sciences and have gained diverse experience in both private and academic settings, including mixed practice, first-opinion, and referral equine practice. I have consulted in medicolegal cases throughout Ireland and the UK. My clinical focus is on equine orthopaedics, particularly in the management of joint diseases and fractures. Additionally, I have a keen interest in ophthalmic and upper respiratory surgeries. Beyond my core specialty, I am also interested in remote capture and emergency scenario management. These interests are universally represented through my work with the FEI where I am a level 2 official veterinarian seeking further promotion. I am an ambitious, innovative professional with entrepreneurial interests and a strong aptitude for making evidence-based decisions.
