Graduated from University of Glasgow in 1991. Worked for 2 years as a rotating intern at Glasgow with a focus on anaesthesia before completing a PhD in vascular physiology. Worked as a clinician in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia in University College Dublin from 1998 to 2002, gaining the ECVAA Diploma at this time. Returned to Glasgow University in 2003 and worked there as a University Clinician in anaesthesia and analgesia until 2022. At this time transferred to Senior Lectureship position in the Division Of Veterinary Science & Education.
