Graduated from the Veterinary School of Maisons Alfort, France, in 1996, Pr. Portier completed a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) thesis in 1997. Over the following 6 years, she worked as an equine practitioner and clinical anesthesiologist in private practice and joined the Veterinary School of Lyon in 2002 as a lecturer in veterinary anaesthesia. She completed a Master of Science (MSc) program (2004) and a PhD thesis (2007) on the effect of oxidative stress and oxygenation on erythrocyte membrane fluidity. She also completed an alternative residency in veterinary anaesthesia (2004-2009), get the certificate of Veterinary Anaesthesia (CertVA) in 2006 and became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (Dip ECVAA) in 2010. She get the "Habilitation à Diriger les Recherche" (HDR) in 2012 and have been made a Professor in 2016 (the first professor of veterinary anaesthesia in France). She is an elected member of the Executive Committee of the international Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists (AVA) since 2021. She is appointed as an expert in the European System of Evaluation of Veterinary Training (ESVET) of the European Association of Establishments for veterinary education (EAEVE).
Pr Portier is the head of the teaching unit of veterinary anaesthesiology and of the accreditation and ECVAA residency program at VetAgro-Sup (Lyon, France). She organised the European Veterinary Anaesthesia Congress in 2016 in Lyon. She is regularly invited to give lectures in foreign universities (Senegal, Ukraine, Romania, etc.).
She is responsible for the Research Group in Translational and comparative Analgesia (GREAT) in the CarMeN (cardiology, metabolism, nutrition) laboratory (INSERM U1060, INRA U1397, Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University, INSA Lyon, and Charles Mérieux Medical School). She is the author of 36 publications in international indexed journals, has been invited to give more than 47 lectures in international congresses. She is the specialty chief editor of the anesthesiology section of the journal Frontiers in Veterinary Science . Prof. Portier is a member of the scientific council of the French Society of Anaesthesia and Resuscitation (SFAR).
