Andrew investigates disease threats to wildlife conservation, including the drivers of disease emergence and zoonotic spill-over; he published the first report of a species extinction due to parasitism and investigated vulture declines in South Asia. He was awarded a CSIRO medal for co-discovering Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis as a cause of amphibian declines, a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award for his work on zoonotic viruses in African bats and, in 2016, he was appointed a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for meritorious contributions to learning. He was a member of the first term of the WHO/WAHO/FAO/UNEP One Health High Level Expert Panel.
