Anke Stöhr received her degree of Veterinary Medicine (med. vet.) from the University of Leipzig in 2008. She then worked multiple years as a small animal and exotics veterinarian in different animal hospitals and clinics in Germany and was certified as a Specialist for Reptile Medicine (Zusatzbezeichnung Reptilien) by the Veterinary Board of Baden-Württemberg, Germany in 2012. She also accomplished different research projects including “Diagnosis and characterization of ranaviruses in reptiles and amphibians in Germany” and “Establishment of reference values for the detection of thyroid diseases in tortoises and turtles”. From 2017-2020, she performed a Zoological Medicine Residency (ACZM/ECZM) with a concurrent graduate program in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the School of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University (USA) and graduated with a Master of Science degree for her work on “Establishment of laboratory methods to assess the application of blood transfusions in reptiles” in May 2020. In April 2021, Anke passed the examination for board certification as a Diplomate of the European College for Zoological Medicine (Herpetology). She authored multiple scientific publications, presented her work at national and international conferences, serves as a reviewer for scientific journals and is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV). Currently, she is working in her own private practice for exotic pets near her hometown (Freiburg i. Brsg.) in South Germany and is looking forward to improve the health and welfare of exotic animals and to continue to contribute to the scientific literature and the education of young veterinarians.
