Dr. Céline RICHOMME
France
EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Wildlife Population Health
I was initially trained as a veterinarian at the National Veterinary School of Nantes, France (1996–2001) and worked as a practitioner with cattle and domestic carnivores for four years. During this time, I also worked on health monitoring programmes for mountain ungulates in national parks, focusing particularly on the transmission of pathogens between wild and domestic ungulates. I then completed a Master's degree and a PhD in ecology, specialising in the epidemiology of zoonotic diseases in feral pigs. Since 2009, I have worked as a scientific project manager at Anses, and since 2022, as a research director. My work involves developing knowledge and expertise in the eco-epidemiology of animal diseases in wildlife, particularly at the interface with domestic animals and humans. The aim is to inform surveillance and management measures for these diseases. The pathogens on which my work has focused are diverse, but primarily concern mycobacteria of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, particularly M. bovis, the main agent of bovine tuberculosis (TB); nematodes (Echinococcus and Baylisascaris); and Clostridium botulinum. Another aspect of my work involves researching measures and tools for controlling or preventing diseases transmission at the wild-domestic interface, particularly the vaccination of badgers against TB, with the ultimate goal of improving their management.
