I graduated from Texas A&M University 1989 (BS), 1992 (DVM), and 1995 (MS in Veterinary Pharmacology). Initially serving as the Associate Veterinarian at the Dallas Zoo and Aquarium at Fair Park for 10 years, I then became the Dr. Lester E Fisher Director of Veterinary Medicine at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, IL in 2002. American College of Zoological Medicine Diplomate status was achieved in 1999, and European College of Zoological Medicine Diplomate status in 2012. I have been primary residency mentor since 2003 in Chicago and taught over 75 interns and preceptors between my two institutions. Positions in American Association of Zoo Veterinarians have included: Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine Associate Editor (since 1996), Infectious Disease Committee Co-Chair and Chair, and Research Committee Co-Chair and Chair. I have served as Examination Committee Chair for both ACZM and ECZM. Presidential Service Awards from AAZV have been received in 1998, 2004, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2020. I am adjunct faculty with University Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine and Northwestern Medical University, and invited lecturer in the curriculum of the Royal Veterinary College/Zoological Society of London. Since 1996, I have been the Veterinary Advisor for the Coraciiformes TAG and Buceros SSP, and since 2003, Veterinary Advisor for the Chimpanzee SSP. I have authored chapters for Fowlers 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10, and was a contributing editor for Fowler 9 and Fowler 10.
