EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Zoo Health Management
Prof. Liptovszky is Professor of Practice at the University of Nottingham, School of Veterinary Medicine and Science. Prior to this position he worked in a number of European, UK and Australian zoos both as a zoo and wildlife veterinarian and in different leadership roles, most recently as Director Life Sciences at Perth Zoo, Western Australia. He worked in a wide range of field conservation and research projects in Europe, the UK, Asia, Africa, Central America and Australasia. He graduated as a veterinary surgeon in 2005, and also earned a diploma in wildlife management during his studies. He holds a master in exotic animal medicine, an MSc in science communication and is a European and RCVS recognised specialist in zoological medicine. He is the veterinary advisor of the European Association of Zoos and Aquarium's Western lowland gorilla EEP, associate editor of the Journal of Zoo and Aquarium Research, and editor of the journal Veterinary Record Case Reports. His main focus of interest is conservation and more specifically the interface of ex-situ and in-situ conservation, as well as conservation medicine, clinical research and science communication.
