I hold the European Diploma in Zoo Health Management and am veterinary adviser to EAZA for the Felid TAG, Pallas' cat, the European wildcat and the Red fronted macaw as well as veterinary adviser to the Scottish Government for both wild and captive animal welfare. I am a Fellow of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the charity that owns Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park, where I work clinically. I am a past President of the European College of Zoological Medicine and the British Veterinary Zoological Society. I have chaired the UK's Zoo Experts Committee for the last 7 years and ensured the publication in May 2025 of the first set of new standards for zoos in the UK since 2012. I have been and continue to work with UK and Scottish Government animal health and welfare committees ensuring policy changes for positive animal welfare are made.
