Tom graduated from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in 2010, and after 4 years in a busy emergency practice and a one year internship undertook his residency at the RVC. He obtained his Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2018 and for the European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2021. Following his residency Tom became the Cardiothoracic Perfusion Fellow at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (RVC) where he learnt to perform cardiopulmonary bypass to facilitate open heart surgery. Tom is currently a senior lecturer in emergency and critical care and between 2018-2024 he served as clinical lead in acute post-operative cardiothoracic critical care. Clinically Tom is active in the provision of all forms of extracorporeal therapies and his main interests include the bedside application of physiologic principles, critical care controversies, advanced blood gas acid base analysis and mechanical ventilation.
