Phillipa (Pip) first undertook a degree in Animal Sciences at Plymouth University from 2004-2007 alongside working in the animal and vet department at Paignton Zoo in Devon. She then went onto the 4-year accelerated program at The Royal Veterinary College and graduated with honors in 2011. She started her career in a small animal practice in Hertfordshire, also seeing a small number of exotic patients. In September 2012 she moved to Twycross Zoo in Warwickshire as Veterinary Associate. In August 2018 she started the ECZM Zoo health management residency alongside her normal role. In June 2020 she became Veterinary Services Manager at Twycross Zoo and has been in this role ever since. She manages the veterinary department at Twycross Zoo as well as being the clinical lead of the Ape heart project. She is also the EAZA EEP vet advisor for Siamang and Bush dogs and the BIAZA Veterinary focus group chair. She attained her European diploma in Zoo health management in 2023. Her current research interests include ape heart disease and training zoo animals for veterinary procedures.
