Born in San Cristobal, Venezuela, on November 1, 1960. From 1983 to 1985, he was a resident at the Institute of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy (University of Bologna). He graduated in Veterinary Medicine on December 18, 1985. He began a PhD program in "Veterinary Anatomo-Histopathological Disciplines" in 1987 at the Institute of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy (University of Bologna). In November 1988, he became a researcher in "Veterinary General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy". On November 1, 1998, he was appointed Associate Professor of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Teramo, and on October 2, 2000, he was appointed Associate Professor at the same faculty, where he currently holds the title of Full Professor. From 1981 to 1983, he taught the annual Advanced Training Course in Veterinary Pathological Anatomy and Inspection at the University of Bologna. In the academic years 1994/95, 1995/96, 1996/97, and 1997/98, he taught the annual course in General Veterinary Pathology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Teramo, and from November 1998 to the present, he has taught the annual courses in General Veterinary Pathology and Veterinary Pathological Anatomy at the aforementioned Faculty. Since the 2014/15 academic year, he has taught courses in Comparative Oncology in the Veterinary Medicine degree program and at the Specialization School of Laboratory Animals at the University of Warmia and Mazury, Olsztyn, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Poland, taught in English. In September 1998, he obtained the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (reassessment every five years in 2023). He has been a European Veterinary Specialist in Pathology (EBVS) from 2019 to 2023. He is a member of the scientific societies specializing in pathology (ESVP and AIPVet). He is President of the Italian Association of Human and Veterinary Dermatologists (AIDUV) (from 2002 to present). He was President of the “Association of Italian Veterinary Pathologists” (AIPVet) until September 2016, and a member of the Scientific Commission of the “Italian Society of Veterinary Sciences” (SISVET) until 2019. Referee for the journals Plos One, Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series A, BMC Cancer, and Acta veterinaria scandinavica. Co-editor of the international journal Journal of Elementology since 2010, and member of the scientific board of the Polish Journal of Natural Sciences since 2014. He has been a member of the Academy of Sciences of Abruzzo and the Adriatic Regions since 2017. Ministerial appointment as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Interuniversity Consortium for Bio-Oncology (CIMBO) for the three-year terms 2011-2014, 2015-2017, 2018-2020, and 2021-2024. Scientific member of the Animal Welfare Body (OPBA) of the University of Teramo, established by Rectoral Decree 70 of February 23, 2016 (UNITE). He has conducted research in various fields of veterinary pathology, the results of which have been the subject of over 150 scientific publications (107 reviewed on PubMed - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=Della+Salda+L&sort=date), and has authored book chapters, focusing in particular on comparative oncology (which has affected half of the publications), skin pathology and ultrastructural pathology.
