Veterinary Pathologist, PhD in Pathology from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Cape Town, South Africa and member of the ECVP college. Since 1991 until now, she is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of Porto University (IPATIMUP) and i3S - Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde. Full Professor of Veterinary Pathology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto (ICBAS-UP) since 2006. She has retired from the University of Porto as a full professor of Veterinary pathology and maintains her affiliation with i3S/IPATIMUP as a senior researcher in the Glycobiology and Cancer group. Research main interests are: experimental comparative oncology using in vivo and in vitro models, dogs and cat’s mammary tumors, gastric cancer and a special interest in the regulation of galectins in tumor progression and metastasis of cancer process. She is author or co-author of over 240 articles in refereed international journals.
