Giovanni is a veterinary pathologist by training, with 25+ year experience in toxicological pathology, gained in both Industry and Academia. He holds PhD in Pharmacology obtained from the Centre for Drug Safety Science - University of Liverpool and he is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists since 2014. From 2014 to 2018, Giovanni has headed the Laboratory for Animal Model Pathology (LAMP; UZH - Institut für Veterinärpathologie - Laboratory for Animal Model Pathology (LAMP)), a Comparative Pathology Unit at the VetSuisse Faculty, University of Zurich, CH, where he still holds an honorary position as part of academic staff. In 2018-2022, Giovanni worked as Senior Director Pathology for AstraZeneca, Sweden. There he supported safety and efficacy activities in the CVRM and Oncology portfolio with a special interest in pathology of new modalities (RNA therapeutics, gene therapy and cell therapy) and animal models of human diseases. Currently, he is heading the Pathology group (clinical and anatomic pathology) at Evotec, based in Verona, Italy. Giovanni is author/co-author of more than 40 publications in internationally recognised peer reviewed journals ( https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9593-5578). He is also the Chair of the British Society of Toxicologic Pathology Education Subcommittee since November 2020.
