Prof. Manuela SCHNYDER
Switzerland
EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Parasitology
After growing up in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland, I moved to the Veterinary Faculty in Zurich and graduated in 1999. Following my dissertation in wild boar, I worked in private small and large animal practice in Switzerland and abroad, until starting in Parasitology at the Institute of Prof. Peter Deplazes. I obtained my diploma of the EVPC by examination in 2011, performed my habilitation on my favorite parasite, Angiostrongylus vasorum, became Head of the Veterinary Parasitology Unit in 2014 and Professor in 2017.
My research spreads over different aspects of parasite infections in a wide array of animals aiming at better animal health, welfare, and productivity. The group of ‘Veterinary Parasitology’ that I am leading at the Institute of Parasitology in Zurich deals with parasitological topics of companion animals and small pet mammals, horses, livestock, zoo animals and wildlife, comprehending helminths, protozoa and ectoparasites as well.
