Dr. Anna Tauro grew up in Bari, Italy, and earned her degree from the University of Bari. She has since practiced veterinary neurology in Italy, the UK, Australia, and the USA. After completing two small animal rotating internships in the UK, she earned her General Practitioner Certificate in Neurology. Dr. Tauro then pursued a residency in Veterinary Neurology and Neurosurgery at Fitzpatrick Referrals and obtained her Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Neurology. In 2023, Dr. Tauro relocated to the USA to serve as a Clinical Instructor in Neurology and Neurosurgery at North Carolina State University. She is dedicated to teaching and has delivered numerous lectures on neurology and neurosurgery. Her research interests include polymyositis in Hungarian Vizslas, for which she received the BSAVA Award for Clinical Research Abstract in 2013.
In 2024, Dr. Tauro was honored with the title of Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (FRCVS) for Meritorious Contributions to Clinical Practice (MCCP).
Additionally, she has made significant contributions to neuroimaging, particularly in using 3D-CISS sequences for surgical planning, and advancing neurosurgery through the application of 3D printed guides and pedicle screw-rod spinal fixation systems.
