Dr. Verena Jung-Schroers received her veterinary degree from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Hannover, Germany, in 2005, and a doctor degree in veterinary medicine (Dr. med. vet.) from the same university in 2007. In 2021 she habilitated at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover and got the title of a private lecturer. Since 2005 Verena Jung-Schroers works in the Fish Disease Research Unit at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover. In 2013 the title “Veterinary Specialist for Fish” („Fachtierarzt“) and the allowance to teach veterinarians to become Veterinary Specialists for Fish (“Weiterbildungsermächtigung”), was awarded to her by the Veterinary Chamber of Lower Saxony. In 2015 she became a diplomate of the European College of Aquatic Animal Health. She is involved in the consulting service of the institute, in teaching of students and in several research projects. The work in the diagnostic service includes supervision of fish health in public aquaria, aquaculture farms and recirculating aquaculture systems, private ponds and aquaria and retail sales facilities for ornamental fish. Another important part of her work is scientific research about fish health, fish welfare and fish diseases. She has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications (articles, abstracts) and reviews manuscripts for a number of journals.
