Emmet is originally from a suckler beef farm in Galway and graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine from University College Dublin (UCD) in 2012. He spent three years in mixed animal practice on the Welsh Borders in the United Kingdom before returning to Ireland to work for two years in a predominantly dairy farm animal practice in Trim, County Meath. In 2017, he embarked on a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) on reproductive tract disease and oestrus detection inaccuracy in Irish seasonal calving pasture-based dairy cows and a residency in ruminant reproduction with the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR). He was awarded his Diplomat (specialist) status with the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR) in November 2021 and his PhD in June 2022. He was elected to the ECAR board in October 2023.
