EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine
Dr. Oliver Garden is the Kenneth Burns Endowed Chair in Veterinary Medicine and Professor of Comparative Medicine, having concluded a term as Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University in 2026. Prior to that time, he was the Henry and Corinne R. Bower Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences & Advanced Medicine at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Garden graduated from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), University of London, with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine. After completing a Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery, and then a PhD in clinical immunology and gastroenterology, both at the RVC, he moved to the US. Dr. Garden completed a Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellowship at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, before undertaking a Residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at Cornell University. He then returned to the UK, completing a three-year Wellcome Trust Advanced Fellowship at Imperial College London, before being appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Internal Medicine at the RVC. Dr. Garden rose through the ranks to attain tenure as a Professor of Comparative Medicine and Immunology. He is a Board-certified specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine, accredited by the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the latter as both a Fellow and Specialist in Internal Medicine.
