Degree (1985) and a PhD. (1988) in veterinary medicine from the University of Córdoba completed his training in various centres as the Institut für Pathologie de la Tierärztliche Hoschule Hanover (Germany), the Institute for Animal Health (United Kingdom), and the College of Veterinary Medicine, Kansas State University (USA). Professor of the Faculty of veterinary medicine of the University of Córdoba, the study of the pathogenesis of viral diseases has been the main line of research that has developed since his doctoral thesis. A career that began with the study of the pathogenesis of ASF, in collaboration with the CISA-INIA, CBM and the Institute for Animal Health, which has demonstrated the key role of monocyte-macrophage, and production of IL-1 and TNF, in the pathogenesis of vascular lesions. The pathogenesis of Classical Swine Fever has been studied in collaboration with the CISA-INIA, Universidad de Concepción and Agricultural Service of Chile, studies that allowed to characterize the injuries pictures presenting this disease in South America, as well as the role of monocyte-macrophage and the replication of the virus in different cell populations in the development of vascular lesions, thrombocytopenia and inflammatory response against the disease. After the study of the pathogenesis of African Horse Sickness and Haemorrhagic Viral Disease of the Rabbit, since 2006 we have focused on the study of the pathogenesis of PRRS, beggining with the study of the role of monocyte-macrophage and the characterization of strains of different virulence as well mechanisms involve in the regulation of the host immune response .
