Dr. Serafeim Chaintoutis

Dr. Serafeim Chaintoutis holds a degree (DVM) and a PhD from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), as well as an MSc in Infectious Diseases and International Medicine from Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh). Both his doctoral thesis and his master’s thesis were carried out at the Diagnostic Laboratory of the Department of Clinical Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, AUTh. He is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Microbiology (ECVM) and holds the corresponding European veterinary specialty. He has also received advanced training in immunodiagnostics and molecular diagnostics at the Institute for Novel and Emerging Diseases (INNT), Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, Germany. Dr. Chaintoutis has been awarded 14 distinctions, including a prestigious scholarship from the Onassis Foundation for the completion of his doctoral thesis, and a PhD excellence scholarship from AUTh. He has participated in numerous research projects and has worked in National Reference Laboratories for animal infectious diseases. He has taught undergraduate courses across several universities, as well as professional training seminars organized by the Hellenic Agricultural Organization – Demeter. He has authored more than 55 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals, serves as a reviewer for over 35 journals, and is a member of editorial boards or a guest editor in peer-reviewed journals such as Transboundary and Emerging Diseases, Comparative Clinical Pathology, and Viruses. Dr. Chaintoutis is a Laboratory Teaching Staff member at the Diagnostic Laboratory of AUTh, where he undertakes teaching, diagnostic, and research responsibilities, and serves as supervisor of the ECVM-approved training center. In addition, he teaches in postgraduate study programs, is a member of expert groups, and acts as an evaluator for research proposals and projects. His research interests focus on veterinary laboratory diagnostics, including clinical microbiology, immunology, and clinical pathology. Specifically, his work investigates animal responses to pathological conditions and immunization, the identification of pathogenic agents, and the development and validation of laboratory diagnostic assays.
