Theofilos is a researcher at the Veterinary Research Institute-Hellenic Agricultural Organization-DEMETER.
He holds a DVM, MSc in Aquatic Animal Health, Msc in Public Health, as well as a PhD in Molecular Microbiology-Epidemiology of Salmonella. His expertise encompasses various fellowship programs in Intervention Epidemiology and European Food Risk Assessment. With extensive experience in veterinary medicine and public health across Greece, Belgium, and England, Theofilos' primary focus lies in investigating antimicrobial resistance and stewardship in animals, particularly MRSA and Salmonella, employing a One Health approach to address animal and zoonotic diseases. He is proficient in epidemiological analysis of national surveillance data, including brucellosis, tuberculosis, lumpy skin disease, and BSE, as well as Quantitative Microbiological Risk Assessment. Further, he actively collaborates with medical microbiologists in Greek hospitals for the surveillance and control of antimicrobial resistance. Theofilos is a key member and national representative in various COST actions in Microbiology and Epidemiology, and is affiliated with the European Study Group for Veterinary Microbiology (ESGVM) and the European Study Group for Public Health Microbiology (ESGPHM) within ESCMID.
