Following this he undertook a three- year specialist training programme in comparative ophthalmology at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals, Royal Veterinary College, studying towards the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmology diploma. Following the successful completion of his training, Richard remained at the RVC as a clinician for a further year before moving to a large private referral hospital in Surrey, where he worked for over seven years, latterly as the head of a team of four ophthalmologists. Richard joined South East Veterinary Referrals in December 2025.
Richard has a particular interest in cataract and corneal surgery, having been lucky to train at a centre with a high surgical case load, although he enjoys all aspects of veterinary ophthalmology.
