Raised in Leicestershire in a dairy area before pursuing a veterinary degree at Liverpool. BVSc and PhD at Liverpool University and before becoming a Lecturer, Reader and Personal Chair and DSc at Edinburgh University in Veterinary Pharmacology. In 1999 moved to the USA as a Professor and then Distinguished Professor at Iowa State University. Research focuses on the mode of action of anthelmintic drugs, particularly those that affect ion-channels. Teaching both pharmacology and toxicology to veterinary and graduate students.
