Prof. Giovanni Re graduated in Veterinary Medicine (Thesis: Toxicity trials of a new benzodiazepine in rabbits) from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Turin in 1984-85 and completed his professional habilitation in 1986. He was awarded a PhD in Pharmacology & Toxicology by the University of Turin in 1990. He was an intern at the Institute of Pharmacology & Experimental Therapy, Faculty of Medicine & Surgery University of Turin and at the Department of Clinical & Biological Sciences St. Luigi Gonzaga Hospital Orbassano from Feb 1988-Nov 1992 where he studied methods in drug-receptor interaction and cellular signalling. Prof. Re was appointed as a researcher in Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University of Turin in 1990 and Associate Professor in Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology at the same Institution in 1998. He became a de facto Diplomate European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology (ECVPT) in 1999. Prof Re was president of the course in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Turin from 2001 to 2007 and an Internal Member of the Quality Evaluation Committee of the University of Turin from 2002 to 2008. He was appointed as a Full Professor in Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology (SSD VET/07) in the Department of Veterinary Sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Turin in 2005 and has been Head of Department of Veterinary Sciences – University of Turin, Via Leonardo da Vinci 44, 10095 Grugliasco (Turin), Italy. Prof Re was a Member of the Board of the PhD in Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology of the University of Naples (1999-2000). He has also served as a Member of the Board and Tutor of the PhD School in Veterinary Sciences University of Turin, Member of the Scientific Board and Tutor of the Master in Diagnosis and Treatment of Animal Poisonings, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University of Teramo, Member of the Scientific Board and Teacher of the Master in Neurobiology of Animal Models, University of Turin, Member of the Scientific Board and Teacher of the Master in Cardiology of dogs and cats, University of Turin, and a Member of the Scientific Board and Teacher of the Master in Clinics of Behavioural Disorders of dogs and cats. In 2001, he was a member of the Medication Sub-Committee of the FEI (Federation Equestre International) as a consultant for doping in racing horses. Prof Re was a Member of the Efficacy Working Party of the Committee for Veterinary Medicinal Product of the EMEA (European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products) London from 1997 to 2004. He has served as a referee of The Veterinary Journal (1997-2004), Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics (1997-) and Veterinaria (1997-) and editorial board member of The Veterinary Journal (2000-2003) and Veterinaria (2001-). Prof Re was Vice Chairman of the 10th International Congress of the European Association for Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology conference in Turin in 2006. He was President of the Provincial Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons of Alessandria in 2008. Prof Re was a Prof Re chaired the ECVPT examination committee from 2009-2012. He has served as a Member and Chairman of the EAEVE visiting team for the evaluation of several Faculties and was the European member charged by the Portuguese Ministry of Education, as an EAEVE expert, for the national evaluation of the Portuguese Faculties of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and 2016. PRof Re was a Member of the European Committee of Veterinary Education (ECOVE) in 2014-15 and is currently the chair of ECOVE and is a Member of the Central Committee of FNOVI (National Federation of Veterinary Chambers) (2015-. Prof. Giovanni Re is the author or co-author of around 180 papers published in national and international peer reviewed journals.
