Guillaume received a Diplôme d’Etat de Docteur Vétérinaire (DEDV) from the Veterinary School of Toulouse, France, in 1998. He subsequently trained and worked at the Veterinary School of Lyon, France and at North Carolina State University, USA where he was appointed Assistant Professor in Soft Tissue Surgery (2006-11). He then joined the University of Bristol, UK, and the Langford Vets Referral Hospital (the largest referral hospital of the southwest of England), as a Senior Lecturer, Soft Tissue Surgeon, Educator and Researcher. In 2022, Guillaume returned to his alma mater and was appointed Professor and Head of the Small Animal Surgery service at VetAgroSup, Veterinary School of Lyon, France. Guillaume is interested in all aspects of Soft Tissue Surgery, but his major clinical and research interests are in comparative cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. He earned a PhD in cardiovascular physiology in 2010 from the University Claude Bernard, Lyon, France. He also developed an interest and has pioneered some procedures in interventional radiology and microsurgery. Guillaume has worked extensively alongside human surgeons. He aims to bring the best of what he learns from them to help his veterinary patients and develop novel surgical techniques. In 2020, Guillaume was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for meritorious contributions to clinical practice. Guillaume currently sits on the Board of Regents of the ECVS and is a past member of its examination committee and ACVS research committee. He is a past Associate Editor for the Journal of Small Animal Practice and is currently a European Associate Editor for Veterinary Surgery. Guillaume has extensive experience in teaching at under- and postgraduate levels. He also regularly lectures at national and international veterinary and medical meetings and congresses and enjoy developing novel methods of teaching and assessments. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Guillaume has authored or co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications (articles, abstracts, and book chapters) and reviews manuscripts for several veterinary journals.
