Residency Position in Veterinary Behavioural Medicine (ECAWBM-BM) – Ghent University
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Ghent University invites applications for a three-year Residency Training Programme in Behavioural Medicine, accredited by the EBVS® European College of Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine – Behavioural Medicine subspecialty (ECAWBM-BM). The residency will be conducted under the direct supervision of Prof. Anouck Haverbeke, EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Behavioural Medicine.
The programme starts on 1 April 2026. The deadline for applications is 15 February 2026.

The overall objective of this lecturer position is to contribute to the design, development and delivery of the Veterinary Medicine undergraduate programme in the School of Science and Computing at South East Technological University, Waterford Campus in conjunction with Teagasc Kildalton Agricultural College and support the establishment and operation of veterinary clinical training via the Veterinary Distributed Clinical Network.

The UCD Veterinary Hospital has state of the art equipment including CT, MRI, ultrasound, interventional radiology, full endoscopy and arthroscopy, laser, a radioactive iodine unit and fully equipped surgical and intensive care suites. Ancillary support includes rehabilitation and physiotherapy. The Small Animal Clinical Studies Section currently has capacity for 13 Clinical Academics Clinicians including four surgery, six internal medicine, two emergency and critical care and one oncology specialist. These staff are supported by 10 interns (rotating and discipline specific), 9 residents and a full team of ancillary staff.

This specialized internship represents an excellent opportunity to benefit from high-quality training under the supervision of Dr. Aurélie Sauvage (ECVO diplomate) and Dr. Florine Narinx (board-eligible resident). The candidate will also work in collaboration with a second specialized intern. He/she will participate in consultations, surgeries, and the care of hospitalized animals (small animals and horses). He/she will also play a key role in student training. The ophthalmology case load is around 1000 cases for companion animals and 300 cases for horses per year, with some cases involving exotic pets.

We invite applications for a three-year residency programme in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, which will start on 01/10/2025. The residency is designed to prepare candidates for the ECVAA Diploma. Throughout the programme, residents will gain extensive experience in clinical anaesthesia and engage in clinical research. You will have the privilege of learning under the supervision of 2 ECVAA and 1 ACVAA diplomate. Your responsibilities will include actively participating in the management of patients admitted for anaesthesia for various surgical and diagnostic procedures. Additionally, you will be involved in a one-in-four on-call rotation and will contribute to the teaching commitment of the anaesthesia team.
