The University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation is seeking to fill a W2 professorship for “Small Animal Surgery” (m/f/d) in the Clinic for Small Animals (at the Clinical Center Bünteweg) as soon as possible. The appointment will be made as a civil servant or employee on the basis of grade W2, depending on personal requirements. A temporary appointment may initially be considered depending on individual suitability and requirements.
Responsibilities:
The applicant is expected to represent the entire field of small animal surgery in terms of teaching, research and service delivery. This includes all areas of surgery with a focus on orthopaedics in dogs and cats. We seek a clinically experienced surgeon who can actively develop evidence-based, cuttingedge clinical research in the field of small animal surgery. A research focus in the area of small animal orthopaedics is desirable. We seek an individual who will engage in collegial scientific cooperation with the existing departments and clinical services within the small animal clinic, as well as with other institutes and clinics at the university. The successful candidate will actively contribute to clinical research and participate in national and international research networks, fostering cross-university collaborations. A strong commitment to nurturing early career scientists and clinicians is essential. Additionally, applicants should be prepared to develop innovative teaching and learning concepts and demonstrate proficiency in university didactics.
Requirements:
An international research profile with several years of experience and proven scientific track record in the fields mentioned above in the form of excellent publications and third-party funding is expected. The prerequisites for employment are a veterinary licence to practice medicine in Germany, pedagogical aptitude and teaching experience, and a doctorate/PhD, habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements. The applicant must hold a Diploma from the European or American College of Veterinary Surgeons and should be eligible to run a residency program. In addition, the qualification or the possibility of recognition as a national specialist in small animal surgery (Fachtierarzt in Chirurgie) is also required. Experience with successful independent acquisition of third-party funding as well as staff and business management are also required. Existing evidence of courses in university didactics and results of
teaching evaluations should be submitted with the application. The other recruitment requirements are set out in Section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG).
